Mini Menopause

Dr. Sonal Patel

The hormonal changes that occur In the 4th trimester mimic the changes often occur during menopause. Perimenopause changes can be seen as early as 35 years. Imposed upon this is the societal trend of women having babies later in life. Thus, the 4th trimester can also be called “Mini Menopause”. It’s crucial to understand these changes to appreciate their link not only to postpartum depression but other health issues such as bone health. One of the key hormones affected is estrogen, which tends to be low during this period. Supplementing with vitamin D and Magnesium has been suggested as a way to address this deficiency and potentially alleviate some of the associated symptoms.

Case for Medical Home Visit as a Solution for Maternal Mortality

Dr. Sonal Patel

Medical home visits during the 4th trimester are important for monitoring the health and well-being of the mother and baby, providing essential support and guidance, and ensuring continuity of care during this critical period of adjustment and recovery. Home visits can help to bridge the gap between hospital and community-based care, ensuring continuity of care and helping to identify and address any barriers to accessing healthcare services. More importantly, medical home visits decrease maternal mortality rates.
